Flintstones Vitamins are supposed to be the Pediatrician’s #1 Choice, right? But do all Pediatricians know the shocking list of chemicals that are in these vitamins?
The Claim:
I looked up Flintstones Chewable Vitamins with Iron for kids. Here is their claim:

A little further digging and I found the ingredients:

†PHENYLKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE
When you see †PHENYLKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE then you know it has aspertame in it. Aspertame is another word for nutrasweet and it is a neurotoxin.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest feels so strongly about this, they filed a petition to the FDA requesting the following clause be added to labeling, “’NOTICE: This product contains sorbitol, which may cause diarrhea, bloating, and abdominal pain. Not suitable for consumption by children. To protect yourself, start by eating no more than one serving at a time.’” Sorbitol -Sorbitol is used as a sweetening agent and used as a sugar substitute. The very FIRST ingredient in a children’s vitamin is a sweetener. Nursing mothers are advised to avoid Sorbitol while pregnant. It has a laxative effect and excessive amounts can cause bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, cramping and other abdominal problems. The severity of this problem for children is hotly debated.
Mannitol– Mannitol is used as a sweetener in food. It’s also used to treat those with acute renal failure and kidney issues. It is very close in relation to Sorbitol. They are both sugar alcohol molecules.
Fructose– again another form of sugar. Glucose and Fructose are simple sugars. The body produces glucose, it is vital to life. Fructose is not. We do not produce fructose. Please read this article from Mercola “Sugar may be Bad, but Fructose is Far More Deadly”
Carageenan – this food additive has been a KNOWN dangerous allergen since 1940, yet it’s still classified by the FDA as “safe for human consumption”? Yes, this is the same FDA that also approves MSG (linked to brain damage, obesity, and cancer), aspartame (linked to MS, seizures, memory issues, and blindness) and saccharine (linked to many cancers).
Natural & Artificial Flavors – both artificial and natural flavors contain chemicals. The distinction between natural and artificial flavorings is the source of chemicals. Natural flavors are created from anything that can be eaten (i.e animals and vegetables), even if those edible things are processed in the lab to create flavorings.
Most artificial flavorings are derived from petroleum. They have been shown to affect the RNA, thyroid, and enzymes. Most have never even been studied for safety or toxicity. Take a look at the list of 49 ingredients that make up strawberry flavoring.
One artificial flavor that has been “outed” recently was diacetyl. A research study published in the journal Toxicological Sciences proved that the substance used to flavor popcorn causes a very dangerous lung disease called lymphocytic bronchiolitis.
Artificial Colors Most artificial colors are made from coal tar, which is a carcinogen. According to Mercola,com, “Red #40 is the most-widely used and consumed dye. It may accelerate the appearance of immune system tumors in mice. It also causes hypersensitivity (allergy-like) reactions in some consumers and might trigger hyperactivity in children”. Mayoclinic.com also agrees that Red #40 and Yellow #6 may contribute to kids hyperactivity issues. As of July 2010, the European Union implemented warning labels with foods containing dyes.
Aspartame – another sweetener! Aspartame is a synthetic combination of the amino acids aspartic acid and l-phenylalanine, and is known to convert into highly toxic methanol and formaldehyde in the body. Aspartame has been linked to over 40 adverse health effects in the biomedical literature, and has been shown to exhibit both neurotoxicity and carcinogenicity [1]
A little History on Bayer
Bayer is a German pharmaceutical company founded in 1863. In 1925, it merged with IG Farben, a German chemical industry conglomerate, notorious for it’s roll in the Holocaust. It is stated that 100% of all explosives and of all synthetic gasoline came from the factories of IG Farben.
It is well documented that IG Farben was closely connected with the Nazis. During the Nazi takeover of Germany, IG Farben became involved in numerous war crimes. They collaborated with the Nazi Government to produce and patent large quantities of the pesticide Zyklon B, the chemical used to gas millions of Jews to death in gas chambers.
This is the very same company who is making your children’s vitamins.
I think it’s time we take a closer look and examine what we are giving to our children. All it takes is a little awareness to see what it going on around us. We are programmed to see these cute commercials with angelic children living fulfilling, happy lives as long as they take their vitamins. These commercials are meant to manipulate us to see what they want to see and hide what they don’t want us to see.
Just being aware can produce massive change in the world. Please don’t turn away and let this continue. We need to know what we are digesting and how it affects our health. These are HUGE powerful money hungry companies with very little interest in our health. The mere fact that the company responsible for the chemicals used in gas chambers is enough for me to never give them another dime.
One person CAN make a difference and my kids health and lives are worth it. Are yours?
Bottom Line
The chemicals in these vitamins are not only shocking but downright dangerous! Manufacturers, such as Bayer, often take the stance that the majority of children are not getting the recommended daily allowance of certain vitamins and minerals. They feel products such as Flintstone’s bridges that gap.
I beg to differ!
The chemicals and additives in these vitamins do more HARM to our little children’s bodies than GOOD. We must make our voices heard! I simply cannot comprehend why our Federal Government approved this product, but even worse, our family pediatricians and doctors recommend it. Thousands upon thousands of kids have taken these vitamins, including my own.
I urgently implore you to write to Bayer and let them know your child’s health is at risk by taking these vitamins!
